“Handing over the baton”
After Olympic fever hit the UK during the summer we themed our workshop slightly with some Olympic inspired components.
We opened the workshop with the idea of handing over the baton. With the e-LICE project coming to a close in Spring 2013 we continued to push the sustainability of our project by utilising the skills of our participants and using the materials that are readily available on the CMS to run the workshop. During the regular week we encouraged some of our most experienced participants to lead in demonstrations and tutorials during the workshop. Participants were also encouraged to use the materials that have been uploaded to the “Faculty Training” areas of the CMS to guide their own development with the use of e-Learning materials.

e-Learning Workshops
As with the last visit we used the “combined workshop” approach to help us to utilise the skills of experienced participants to assist with training the more novice people in Articulate and CMS areas. The attendance of the workshop was excellent from KCN and MCHS and in total we had over 30 people in the computer lab for the 4 day workshop.
The energy and enthusiasm for learning about Articulate and other useful skills was fantastic with people working in small groups to achieve their tasks. We learned from previous workshops that the time taken to effectively learn the Articulate software could be greatly reduced if we focus on creating resources that are not focused on a curriculum topic. We used the recent Olympics as inspirations and used the Heptathlon as our subject to help us learn how to create a variety of resources and quizzes.
Learning the software and approaches to e-Learning was achieved with a balance of demonstration led activities, and small discussion groups to think about the context in which the resources could be used. In addition to learning Articulate a number of other generic computing skills were incorporated into the workshop.
Areas covered:
- Articulate Engage
- Tabs, Process, Labelled Images were the focus
- Articulate Quizmaker
- 8 of the most common question types
- Focus on giving good feedback
- Good question writing
- Articulate Presenter
- 1 participant managed to record a full voice-over for a lecture that is repeated regularly at the start of term
- Computer skills
- Creating and Editing images using Paint or PowerPoint
- Taking a “screen-shot”
- Saving files
